Financial Analyst (6-month Contract)
Location: Remote - Anywhere in Canada
Empire Life is looking to hire a Financial Analyst to join our Insurance Finance team for a 6-month contract!

What you’ll be working on
Data Management & Reporting: Accurately compile and record transaction data from multiple sources into the company’s accounting systems to ensure timely and precise report generation.
Reconciliation & Issue Resolution: Manage daily and monthly bank reconciliations, swiftly identifying and resolving discrepancies to maintain financial integrity.
General Ledger Management: Monitor, review, analyze, and reconcile General Ledger (GL) accounts, proactively identifying variances and ensuring data accuracy.
Transactional Coordination: Collaborate with various business units to investigate and resolve transactional discrepancies, implementing timely adjustments as necessary.
Cash Flow Analysis & Forecasting: Assist with analyzing and forecasting the company’s short-term cash flow needs, preparing instructions for external partners (banks and custodians) to facilitate efficient fund movement.
Month-End Close & Analysis: Actively participate in the month-end close process, including the analysis and reconciliation of various accounts.
Financial Analysis: Assist in the analysis and interpretation of financial results, providing insights to support decision-making.
Process Improvement: Collaborate with Finance team members to continuously enhance and automate processes and templates, driving efficiency across the team.
Project Participation: Contribute to various projects and initiatives, taking on tasks as assigned to support the organization’s objectives.
Team Support & Collaboration: Provide backup support to team members and other business units as needed, ensuring seamless operations.
Audit Support: Assist with requests from both external and internal auditors, ensuring accurate and timely responses.
What we’re looking for you to have
Completion of a university degree with courses in financial accounting, management and business administration
3+ years of professional work experience within the accounting and finance discipline, preferably in the insurance and/or financial services industry
Experience in the financial services/insurance industry preferred.
Knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing and database software, with advanced Microsoft Excel competency strongly preferred
Strong knowledge of Accounting Principles
CPA designation or working towards is an asset
Knowledge of Unitrax, Ingenium e-Capsil, c-Capsil and Portia is an asset
High attention to detail/accuracy
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Well-developed communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
